Every standard wellness exam includes a comprehensive nose-to-tail evaluation. Each exam checks for the following:
- Weight: Based on BMI, if your pet is found to be overweight or underweight, we can recommend diet/nutrition or exercise recommendations.
- Temperature: Temperature can help us determine if your pet has a fever, which can be an indicator of infection.
- Skin/coat: Pets can suffer from a number of dermatological problems that may require additional exams and treatments. This includes rashes, atopy, dandruff, and mange.
- Eyes: Dry eyes, infections, cataracts, and glaucoma are some of the most common eye issues seen in pets. If any of these conditions are found, we typically recommend an ophthalmology exam.
- Nose: During nose examinations we look for cloudy, yellow, or odorous discharge. These symptoms can indicate a blockage, allergies, or infection.
- Ears: Ear problems are the most common problems seen in pets. Ear problems are often a result of allergies, parasites, or foreign bodies. These are usually indicated by discharge, redness, or excessive ear scratching.
- Teeth and gums: This exam includes checking for swollen gums, tartar buildup, bad breath and other abnormal symptoms. These symptoms can be signs of gum disease and other issues. Depending on our findings, we may recommend further evaluations and cleanings.
- Heart and lungs: During the heart and lungs check, we listen for any irregular breathing that may indicate infection or disease.
- Abdomen: Checking the abdomen ensures that there isn’t any swelling, which can be a sign of obstruction.
